Research Focus
The AAI research group (Applied Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence) engages in both fundamental and applied research in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence, without restrictions to a particular domain or data modality. We combine the processing of structured data (e.g., sensors, databases, IoT) with unstructured inputs (text, speech, image), focusing on the design of systems capable of perceiving, making decisions, and interacting effectively in the real world.
Our goal is to design and implement intelligent systems with a direct practical impact. We emphasize:
- Design of neural networks and AI agent systems tailored to specific tasks in domains such as healthcare, biotechnology, robotics, energy, and industrial automation.
- Development of software tools and pipelines for training, deployment, and monitoring of AI systems.
- Machine-to-machine communication using Internet of Things (IoT) and decentralized intelligence.
- Multimodal human–machine interaction, e.g., combining image, speech, and text in interfaces for robotic platforms.
- Modern web applications for visualization, management, and interaction with smart systems, including edge AI devices.
- Development of multimodal systems that combine multimodal large language models (LLMs) with models for interpreting structured data.
Technologies
We use a broad range of modern technologies and methods, including:
- machine learning, deep learning, neural networks
- reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems
- artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs)
- robotics, human–machine interaction, IoT
- web technologies, edge computing
